Great Company: Portraits by European Masters
Exhibition: 20th Jun 2008 to 5th Jan 2009
Source: http://www.mfa.org
A selection of portraits and sculpture by European masters dating from the Renaissance to the 20th century will grace the Coolidge Gallery in the Upper Hemicycle at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) in the special installation, Great Company: Portraits by European Masters.

This display includes six paintings and two sculptures, representing some of the finest European works from the MFA's collection. Great Company is one of three installations to debut on June 20 in celebration of the opening of the State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance in the Museum's Robert Dawson Evans Wing.

At the heart of the second floor of the Evans Wing, at the top of the great staircase that opens from the new State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance, enjoy a special installation of some of the MFA's greatest European portraits. Paintings and sculpture span the Renaissance to the twentieth century, including canvases by Moroni and Gainsborough, by Degas and van Gogh, and by Matisse and Beckmann-as well as marble busts by Canova and Thorvaldsen. Sitters, some unknown, include the poet Lord Byron, Degas's younger sister, and van Gogh's great friend Augustine Roulin.
